Research Interests

Professor Chuo-Chun Jean Hsieh is Professor of Education Policy and Governance at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. She holds prominent academic and leadership roles, including Review Committee Member for the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Editorial Board Member of Higher Education (Taiwan), and Managing Editor of the Tsinghua Journal of Education. She has previously held senior positions, including Head of Curriculum Section at the Centre for Teacher Education at both National Tsing Hua University and National Dong Hwa University.

Professor Hsieh has successfully secured significant research funding, including ten competitive research grants as Principal Investigator from NSTC, totalling over NT$10.6 million, and has contributed as a Co-Investigator to multiple nationally funded projects. Her scholarly contributions are substantial, comprising 19 peer-reviewed articles published in leading academic journals such as Studies in Higher Education and Higher Education. Among her recent influential works are "Global prescriptions and local adaptations: the role of political culture in shaping governance strategies for university funding" (2024, Studies in Higher Education) and "Governance in transition: An analytical framework for hybridity and dynamics in higher education" (2023, Higher Education).

Her publications have achieved notable citation impacts, exemplified by "Europe's Bologna Process and its impact on global higher education" (FWCI: 5.75), "Internationalization of higher education in the crucible: Linking national identity and policy in the age of globalization" (FWCI: 2.58), and "Governance in transition: an analytical framework for hybridity and dynamics in higher education" (FWCI: 2.33). In addition, she has co-edited two significant academic books in Traditional Chinese—Education Governance: Theory and Practice and Emerging Issues in Educational Administration—which are highly influential in shaping educational governance discourse in Taiwan.

Professor Hsieh’s academic contributions have been acknowledged through multiple prestigious awards, including the Grant for Recruitment and Retention of Outstanding Talents from National Tsing Hua University (2023–2025, 2018–2019), the Outstanding Research Scholar Award (2021–2022) from the same university, and the Outstanding Young Scholars Research Grant from Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (2019–2021). In recognition of her early career contributions, she was awarded the New Faculty Academic Award at National Dong Hwa University in 2015.

Beyond her academic research, Professor Hsieh actively engages in professional societies, previously serving as Secretary-General of the Taiwan Association for Local Educational Development, reinforcing her leadership role in shaping education policy discussions in Taiwan.

Collectively, these achievements reflect Professor Hsieh’s expertise in education governance and policy reform aligns closely with UCL IOE’s research priorities, positioning her as a strong candidate for the Honorary Senior Research Fellow position.
