Research Interests

Joanna joined the ISIKLE team in September 2020 as student staff for UCL Volunteering Service, supporting Anne Laybourne in the delivery of Community Research Initiative for Students (CRIS). A UCL anthropology graduate and a current masters student at UCL, Joanna offers a particularly useful insight into student experience, especially under the special circumstances of this academic year. Joanna joined CRIS to facilitate the upscaling of the service, working with both students and community partners to better understand needs and preferences which should direct the development of CRIS, and implementing it through automated processes. With her anthropological training, Joanna recognises the links between knowledge, power and privilege, and the need for universities to engage the experts in the community in the knowledge production process. CRIS has been an opportunity to contribute to a positive social change by inspiring knowledge exchange.
